Keyhole GardenA Keyhole Garden helps farmers in Africa who have land with infertile soil. It comprises of a central compost basket surrounded by a raised bed filled with soil.

Compostable waste and “grey” (used) water is poured into the compost basket. The nutrients then seep into the surrounding bed, making the soil more fertile. Farmers can then grow a variety of nutritious vegetables to feed their family.

One of the best things about Keyhole Gardens is they are easily adapted. Farmers can use any materials they can get locally. For example, they can use sand filled bottles instead of bricks or stones for the base.
