On 22nd April, Moo Music’s Elle Newman will be running the London Marathon for Send a Cow.  Moo Music already proudly supports Send a Cow, donating 10% of their profits each year.  But, in 2018 they wanted to raise even more money. Through a series of events, including getting all the Moo Music groups on board with their innovative Welly Week, Elle has been busy not just training but also raising awareness and funds.  Here she tells Send a Cow about her training and why she wanted to take on this challenge.

Being chosen to run the London Marathon for Send a Cow in 2018 is a huge privilege and an exciting challenge! One of the most inspiring things about Send a Cow is that not only do they give families and communities a means to lift themselves out of poverty for good, but there’s that sense of pride that comes with it - that they've worked hard and achieved this for themselves and farmers often pass on their skills, knowledge and livestock to others. This seems to have really struck a chord with those who have been supporting my fundraising.

As a mum to three young children, and with a working cocker spaniel, 2 cats, a part time job and hard working husband who often works away, the hardest thing has been finding time to train. I even bought a second hand treadmill but I soon discovered that it wasn't for me!

I love being outdoors and living on the North Devon coast there’s nothing better than running outside with Salty Sea Dog! Having said that, I’ve run in some horrendous storms – my phone broke on New Year’s Day because it got soaked in a hail storm! For a while now I’ve been running at least a half marathon each weekend so I’ve missed out on some precious family time; but I know they’ll feel proud of their mummy on the big day.

Taking on the London Marathon for Send a Cow has really brought home the amazing support of my bosses and founders of Moo Music, Ant and Jess Parker, and all the Moo Music session leaders (or Farmers as we like to call them.) I couldn’t do any of this without the support of my husband; my brother who has given valuable training advice; family, friends and my local community.

It’s been great thinking up fundraising ideas and seeing these come to life: a charity box at my local cafe; 80s Roller Disco; 60s Beach and Surf Theme live music night; raffles; sports events for the kids and 'Moo Music Welly Week’.  A friend has even offered a “pamper and fizz” evening in return for donations! I’m definitely enjoying the fundraising as much as the running.

I would highly recommend taking on a challenge to raise funds for Send a Cow. The team have been so supportive, from marathon training advice to being there to answer any questions. Running in the London Marathon will be quite an experience; training has been on the North Devon coastal paths, jumping over stiles, slipping in muddy fields and running along the beaches.  Thankfully my brother will be there on the day to help this Devon girl navigate London. Thank you Send a Cow for this fantastic experience - I hope I’ll do you proud!

Send a Cow are right behind you Elle. Thank you to EVERYONE at Moo Music - children, parents and carers, and session leader Farmers – for also getting behind Elle during Welly Week, boosting her fundraising efforts and keeping her MOO-ving.  Go Elle!
