food on a tableFood with Friends is a celebration of our founding story.

30 years ago in February 1987, a few farming friends got together for a meal in David Bragg’s home… and that led to the start of Send a Cow.

This month, our Ambassadors have been remembering that first Send a Cow meal by inviting a few friends or family members for a meal – the choice has been down to them.

They have asked their guests to give a small donation instead of bringing a gift or paying for a meal. The hope is that Food with Friends will raise enough money to give 25 families the gift of a cow – echoing the original Send a Cow cargo of 25 in-calf heifers in 1988.

So much food enjoyed with so many friends

Ian and JudyOur fabulous Ambassadors have taken this idea to their hearts. News has been coming in of meals held right across the country, so far stretching from Chichester to Darlington.

Informal ‘at homes’, African-themed suppers, breakfasts, brunches, lunches, Valentines dinners and coffee with cake, there has been a huge amount and variety of food eaten in aid of Send a Cow this February!

  • Ian and Judy welcomed Elizabeth from Ethiopia as one of the guests to their ‘At home’. Elizabeth brought authentic Ethiopian coffee and traditional items for serving it. The day raised enough money to buy a whole cow.
  • Rosemary’s delicious lunch at home with friends raised almost £200, while the simple meal Syd and Carole had planned to hold at home grew into a dinner for 62 people in their village hall that ended up raising £1,550.
  • An African supper evening organised by a group of Ambassadors in the West and South Midlands region raised almost £1,400.

£16,250 would give a memorable 25 cows, and it sounds as though our amazing Ambassadors are already well on the way to achieving it. Thank you to all of them – and to all their guests – for supporting us so generously and celebrating Send a Cow’s work in such style.
